Green Hills Community Action Agency

At GHCAA, we focus on assisting low-income people in their efforts to become self-reliant. We strive to work in partnership with the state, counties, communities, and other agencies to provide a range of human and economic development services and activities. The goal of these services and activities is to address and ease the misery of poverty, replace despair with opportunity and hope, make known the plight of the poor, focus in on people, individuals, families, communities, and facilitate problem solving.

People helping people in times of crisis...

GHCAA focuses on assisting low-income people in their efforts to become self-sufficient. Services are provided to enable families to improve their financial, physical, mental and social level through programs designed to motivate individuals to set and reach personal goals.

GHCAA County Offices are the first source of help for families in need. Trained, responsive personnel and volunteers develop plans with families to alleviate their current crisis situation and stabilize the family.

When heating, cooling, food, and shelter emergencies arise, GHCAA can help stabilize a crisis situation. Qualifying families may receive assistance through the Family Crisis Response Program, the Emergency Homeless Program, the Energy Crisis Intervention Program, and Food Pantries. When a family's safety is an issue, the Green Hills Women's Shelter offers a safe, comfortable place to begin again without the fears of domestic violence.

People helping people improve their living conditions...

Affordable, quality housing is a growing concern for the nine-county Green Hills Area residents. GHCAA is working with local communities, contractors, and state resources to provide new housing opportunities for low-income families through Housing Development. Roofing, plumbing, and wiring are often replaced in older homes through the Housing Rehabilitation Programs, which improve low-income residents' living conditions. Through the Weatherization Program, walls and ceilings are insulated, doors and windows are replaced, and cracks are sealed to make homes more energy efficient. The Housing Assistance Program assists low-income families with their monthly rental payment while they work toward becoming self-sufficient. Dwellings must be in decent, safe, and sanitary condition and meet quality standards. Low cost women's health care is the focus of the Family Planning Program. A Women's Health Nurse Practitioner and trained staff offer physical exams, counsel patients, and provide birth control methods.

People helping people set and reach personal goals...

Guidance is provided through the Family Support Program to assist low-income families in setting personal goals and working toward self-sufficiency. Training in the areas of personal responsibility, problem solving, emergency backup plans, budgeting, and self-esteem are included in the Life Skills: Self Development Project. The Pre-Employment Training Program works with individuals who need help completing a job application, polishing their presentation skills, and prepare to obtain a job interview. The Employment and Training Program takes the process a step further and assists individuals with job seeking and job keeping skills as well as direct job placement and classroom occupational training.
